French Women Petition To Bear Arms This petition form of history document petition was written by a group of patriotic women in march 1792, when a miserable living condition people had, representing Parisian women’s desire of protecting their family, striving for liberty, and crushing tyranny. Patriotic women used passioned words to describe their extreme attitudes of fighting for freedom, express ideas of no longer bearing unequal lives, and show their determination that they must gain the victory of smashing the corrupted, violent government. Their payed huge efforts in French revolution. According to the document, A Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizens, it said “The aim of all political association is the preservation of the natural… rights of man. These rights are liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.”. This quotation suggests that men had much higher position than women in society at that time. In the petition, women doubted and claimed that “We will only to defend ourselves the same as you; you cannot refuse us, and society cannot denny the right nature gives us, unless you pretend the Declaration of Rights does not apply to women and that they should let their throats be cut like lambs, without the right to defend themselves.” It expressed a strong desire of gaining their rights. This could relate to 1791, a woman revolutionary named Olympe de Gouges, demanded the same rights for French women that French men were demanding for themselves. Demanding for liberty and equality, women showed their assertiveness of joining the military, killing enemies, and being proud of glorious deaths. “They will uphold their oath, and a dagger aimed at their breasts will deliver them from the misfortunes of slavery!”, which sound blood and violent.
