In life we sometimes need an activity that helps take our mind off of the problems or challenges that life throws our way. Sports have always given me a sense of freedom when I need time to get away and just let loose. When I’m on the basketball court I forget about all my problems and just enjoy the competiveness that the game brings. Not only does basketball clear my mind it also allows me to relive any stress I may have. When I’m on the court nothing else matters I’m just focusing on trying to win the game.
My love for the game can be traced back to when I was a little kid. My dad would always go play basketball on Fridays and I would tag along. I was too young to play yet I just enjoyed spending time with him and getting out of the house. I remember always having a basketball in my hand and watching my dad play just wishing I was big enough to play in the game. As I got older I would practice on my own just waiting for the chance to play in an actual game. When I finally got the chance I was so nervous I couldn’t even shoot the ball, I didn’t care I was just happy I had finally gotten the chance to play with “the big boys”. As I grew older I developed my skills and was able to hold my own. While I am a completive guy I don’t think it’s ever been about winning or losing for me. Just being able to go out there and run around for a couple of hours and enjoy in the camaraderie gives me a sense of accomplishment. When confronted with problems or tough decisions in life I have always been the type of person that wants to sit back and analyze the situation to make the best possible decision. However speaking of personal experience, over thinking something can sometimes be more detrimental to the situation. This is where I believe going out and just letting your mind free for a bit can give you a clearer sense of direction and help you make the right decision.
