English 101 11/26/12 Pro-Choice The pro-choice versus pro-life debate is something that has been feverously debated for years. This issue deals with whether or not a woman has the right to terminate her pregnancy. Being pro-choice does not mean you support “killing babies”, it means you support the fact that a woman can choose to do what she wants with her body. The right to choice is important, and that should not be taken away from anyone. To be blunt, if a woman is not capable or does not want to carry and raise a child, then she should not be forced to by any governmental doctrines. There are many reasons why one can take a stand and be pro-choice. One of these reasons can be the inability of a mother to care for a child if she does have it. Womanscenter.com states, “Nearly half of all pregnancies among American women are unintended…”1 Taking this into consideration, you can assume that a great number of these women may not be doing well, especially in this economy. If a mother is single, jobless, and barely getting by while just taking care of herself, why would you force her to have to raise a child in that situation?…show more content…
They bring into consideration the bible, or other religious explanations as to why abortion would be wrong. People who are religious and are pro-life say that human life begins at conception. If you believe this, then why isn’t there a war on birth control or the use of condoms? Isn’t the use of these products preventing a human life? This statement of life at conception is simply a religious ideal and it even various throughout different religions. “For example, Judaism holds that personhood begins at birth and abortion is not murder.”2 A fetus being is person or having personhood is not something that can even be biologically proven.
