This report will describe, explain and comment critically on 4 areas of the music industry. The areas included are as following: Live performance, Artist management, Music publishing and record companies. The reason for doing these 4 areas is because they all play big roles in the music industry. Live Performance In live performance there are many areas, this report will cover the following three: Roadies, Event organisers and Security. The first area this section will discuss is a Roadie, A Roadie is a person who transports the instruments and equipment to each event safely so that nothing gets damaged and basically does the labour work so that the artists/performers do not have to risk injuring themselves. Roadies are not just a one trick pony, they also set up the majority of the equipment before the performance so it’s all ready for the start time which will include all the instruments, mics, lighting and all the stage arrangements. In addition to this a roadie will make sure equipment is all set up appropriately and safely so no one or nothing gets damaged/injured. Before the event begins the job requires them to test/soundcheck the instruments to make sure they are all working in order and in tune, also to make sure none of the speakers get damaged because one or more instrument is too loud. The reason they do this is so when the performers come on stage everything is set up and ready to go instantly so they don’t waste any time messing about. The Second aspect of live performance this report will cover is an Event Organiser. One of the tasks that an event organiser must do is create various form of advertising which may include radio advertisements, getting in the NME gig guide, small ads in magazines/newspapers all explaining to the reader/listener where the gig is, when the gig is and how much the entry is.
