Although it was the underdog, it was quite effective and had a huge impact in liberation and imperialism. Ghandi is a famous and common name brought up in nonviolence methods. There was much violence in India during British control, for example, clashes in between Muslims and Hindus. Muslim-Hindu conflict cost at least a million lives. In 1945, the British viceroy handed power back to India freely.
Because of this, the modern definition of 'family planning' has lead to some controversy amongst politicians within America. For example, the Republican Party are ideologically conservative, meaning they are a political party which aims to preserve traditional cultures and fashions, for example Christianity being taught throughout all schools. Because Christianity is often seen as the countries' traditional and original religion, republicans argue that Christianity is closely associated with American identity, therefore the eradication of it being taught compulsory within schools is against traditions. For the same religious reasons, the Republicans disagree with family planning schemes such as abortion,- the Republican Party would normally disagree with abortion as it goes against the Christian teaching known as the sanctity of life. This is the traditional teaching taught by the church which explicitly states that all human life is sacred, and so is to be protected by all Christians.
The one thing that everyone should take away is maybe no one owns those holy sites that were fought over for centuries, but maybe they belong to all religious groups and should hold enough religious significance, so no matter what you religious affiliation is a person can go there without fear of life. The Pope and the highest-level religious person from each religion should set down and create a state or several states to manage all the holy sites, sort of a coop. Both Christians and Muslims should learn from history and not judge people for whom they were, but who they are. There is no real fundamental reason why the crusades of the past or the crusades of the present had to
The English were mostly Puritans and pilgrims. The pilgrims wanted to separate from Protestantism, so they came over to the New World. The Puritans wanted to change ideas within the Anglican Church because they felt it was too similar to Catholicism. The Puritans came to the New World and had a huge influence. Unlike the Spanish, the English never forced their religious beliefs onto the Indians.
Winthrop wanted to establish this Utopian community in the New World because of the lack of the ability to truly practice their religion in England. However, in trying to force everyone in community to adhere to the Puritan beliefs, Winthrop’s society fell victim to the same problems that caused his people to leave England in the first place. There was the hope by Winthrop that everyone would buy into the Puritan beliefs and create a wonderful community that would be the envy of all in England. As a result, he believed that others there would see the Puritan way was the best and then reform. The difficulty in this concept is that it ignores free will, and the fact that not everyone thinks alike.
A major difference was that Gandhi campaigned against unjust laws of the British government, while Martin Luther King Jr. campaigned for rights that "colored" people were already lawfully supposed to have. For instance, according to the U.S. government, all people, regardless of skin color, had the equal right of suffrage, but many racists refused to accept this and attacked non-whites when they attempted to vote. Gandhi fought British oppression with
Malcolm once expressed to King’s wife an interest in joining the nonviolent movement. He also explained how he believed that he was doing King a favor by attacking him more than helping him in public because it would make whites choose one or the other and he knew that almost all would side with the more peaceful solution. Malcolm experienced this unexpected change in heart after he returned from his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1964. One thing that may have facilitated that was Malcolm’s being suspended from the Nation of Islam by Elijah Muhammad. “Malcolm was determined to follow a course that paralleled King’s - that is, to combine religious leadership and political action” meaning that he knew King’s methods were effective.
He determined that Little was a slave name and used "X" to denote his lost tribal name. The NOI showed Muslim views accompanied by the notion that white culture aggressively worked to keep African Americans from advancing and attaining political, financial and social accomplishment (Harris, 2000). In addition to their many objectives they wanted to attain a state of their own, isolated from one populated by white people. Malcolm was eloquent and smart, and was chosen to be a minister and national spokesperson for the Nation of Islam with the mission of founding new mosques in cities in Detroit, MI and Harlem, NY. Malcolm's presence showed by way of when he used newspapers, radio, and television so as to bring awareness to the NOI and convey their point to the public; and between 1952 and 1963 affiliation enlarged from 500 to 30,000 (Harris, 2000).
These arguments, although they do not specifically state to physically riot against authority, become enabling factors by which the population should rebel. To begin with, Paine argues that the population of each individual colony would be subjected to better living should they be responsible for their own governing laws. Rather than follow the set rules of the British monarchy, Paine suggests the citizens should “establish a common interest with every part of the community, [and] they will mutually and naturally support each other.” (Paine, 49) Next, he argues that the British monarchy is very complex, contradictory, and unfair to its citizens. For instance, Paine notes that the monarchy “first excludes a man from the means of information, yet empowers him to act in cases where the highest judgment is required.” (Paine, 50) The contradictory case does not just end here, it is also witnessed in the fact that the monarchy continues through the act of hereditary succession – whereby the King’s descendent automatically becomes heir to the throne. He
It was quite lengthy and used very forceful language to tell congress to uphold their promises or be subject to the violence of the African-American people. Malcolm X began his speech by acknowledging that he was still a Muslim, but he quickly added that he did not intend to discuss religion or any other issues that divide African-Americans. Instead, he was going to emphasize the common experience of African-Americans of all faiths. He then says “it doesn’t mean that we’re anti-white…and degrading us.” This is powerful because while he hates white people he says right here that this isn’t a fight against white people; it’s a fight against degradation and exploitation. He then reminds them that since a lot of elections are very close the black population voting as a unified bloc had all the power.
