There, Tita, who has never been pregnant, is able to nurse her nephew. She also develops the ability to cook emotions into her dishes. Sadness is cooked into a wedding cake, uncontrollable passion results from eating a dish with rose petals, fiery anger is magically transferred into chiles. All Tita's emotions are infused into her dishes, and those she feeds experience magical results. Each of Esquivel's chapters begins with a recipe and concludes with an ingredient having slightly changed to alter the dish, filling it with magical powers.
The excellent service begins as soon as the guest enters through the door with the hosts greeting everyone with a smile. The hosts’ enthusiasm shows they are ready to get everyone seated as quickly as possible, yet take the time to engage in a conversation with the visitors on the way to their table. The server assistants then bring the bottomless chips and salsa, asking if there is an interest in a hotter variety of salsa. The assistant more often than not has the chips and salsa out before the server can make an appearance at the table. Once the server arrives, it is almost like being off to the races.
The very next day, we went to a dinner party where we had to pretend to be a big, happy family. My mother put on her happy face and pretended like nothing had happened the night before. She even came up a with a cover story for her cast. That day was the day I realized how strong our mother was. Even though she was in pain, she went out and acted as if everything was fine.

In the novella Like Water for Chocolate, food is used as the medium to express Tita’s feelings. Due to Tita being mostly the one who does all the cooking, her emotions seep into the food that she is making accidentally and without her own control. In the novella, she was told to make all the food for her sister Rosauara wedding to Pedro. While she was making the food, her tears feel into the food as she was making it. Due to this, the entire guest at the wedding started throwing up once they ate her food.

Most people barbeque chicken, hotdogs, hamburgers, ribs, and much more, but everyone has king cakes which are only in Louisiana. The smell of the people barbequing is marvelous. Everyone has an abundance of food; therefore no one goes hungry and maybe have enough for leftovers the next day. After everything is over; the floats and eating, people pack their chairs, towels, bags of beads, barbeque pits and head on home after an exhaustive day. When they get home they take the beads out the bags and keep the ones they like and throw the rest in the bag, and the little kids look through the bags to find toys that they can play with.
I shuffle the spice rack around, find some sage, oregano and basil and sprinkle them in. The seasoning permeates throughout the house, slowly drawing everyone over. Talia brings out another pan to cook the apple and pork sausage, emptying the entire packet. Finally, Selena and I get the largest pot and fill it up to make spaghetti. “See, it’s always a feast.
