Food labelling Food labelling is multifaceted that contains variety of factors, for instance, name, ingredients, nutritional information, origin label and date tagging. Due to the complex of food labelling, many countries have food labelling regulations to rule the standard of food labelling. According to Tigerstrom (2011, p 18), the food labelling regulation is one part of the public health strategy to help promoting a balanced diet. Tigerstrom states that the improving of consumers’ access to accurate and reliable food information about the food they bought could help to enable healthier choices (2011, p.18). As a result of fact that most of the consumers seek a healthier life by using food labelling information, the most important part of food labelling might be the nutritional information labels and origin labelling. Firstly, the nutritional information labels could assists consumers to easily understand the nutritional value of the food they planned to buy and enables them to have a comparing of the nutritional values with similar food items and make healthy informed food choices based on the relevant nutrition information (cited in Washi 2012, p.38). Furthermore, the nutritional information labels are useful for people who are on special conditions, for instance, people who suffering from diabetes or cardiopathy need to select suitable food items for their health conditions. In these situations, the demand for nutrition information would increase, due to the increasingly awareness in the relationship between balanced diet and disease. Secondly, Chern and Lin claim that the origin labelling could influence the consumer’s willingness to pay food from different regions (2012, p.184).
