The argument Hancock makes is that the regular season is so important; losing teams are eliminated from a chance at the championship while winning teams have that chance. The argument made by BCS proponents is that adding a playoff would diminish the value of the regular season. Instead of every game mattering, a team could afford to lose a game or two and still make the national championship. This scenario is one that BCS supporters say is unreasonable. Also, because of the bowl games, much more teams are able to compete in the
Gene thinks, “That way he, the great athlete, would be way ahead of me.” (53). Gene starts to think that he is competing with Finny and finny was trying to get ahead of him by using trickery, but he takes the competition that’s in his head too far and creates enemies for himself out of things that’s all in his head without any facts. Furthermore, Gene’s jealousy
Agreeing & Disagreeing with an Argument When it comes to discussions of how sports, over time, have changed many perspectives on how to live life, one controversial issue has been whether or not sports have taught us to maintain discipline rather than being something that someone must pick a side on. Some people believe that sports were created and implemented in schools to teach patience, honesty, and discipline amongst the male population. In contrast, others maintain that sports are heavily competitive and that it is not the matter of discipline and sportsmanship anymore, but it is the vital need to win the game. In “Why Sports Matter,” Wilfrid Sheed, contends that in the old days, sportsmen were paid by glory, and by giving them the motivation they need to perform better. According to Sheed, “Schools and colleges also teach something by their very natures, which is that you are now playing for a whole community and not just yourself” (498).” Essentially, what Sheed is saying is that sports have brought entire communities to share and experience one thing they love, and that this is truly honorable for the individuals playing the game.
Too much money is brought in to communities from racing and it would be foolish to ban the sport. But every person is different in their own way and we all love different things. I understand why people like football or basketball, but I don’t care for it. They might understand why I love racing, they might not, but as long as we can have our own opinions and hobbies everything is fine with
Being competitive makes you want to do your best and ultimately win. In society today, if you are not on top then you are not recognized. In today’s world, parents are teaching their children to just have fun and not to care about winning. Children today compete in sports, who has the best grades, best clothes, and the newest electronics. Kids should always have fun, but competition is what makes it fun.
However the America government has “President Councils” that encourages regular mass participation in amateur sport to ensure a healthy lifestyle. Economically and socially the government support schemes like “USA Football” to ensure that they develop the sport and achieve their goals as well as salary capping players, to ensure every team has an equal opportunity. The only sports specific agency in America is the Olympic Committee, which has been charted by the US congress. Its role is to aid and encourage participation in amateur sport and support their Olympic
Ethically, what are the consequences for using these form of performance- enhancement? Your integrity is always important when it come to life. If you can use a performance-enhancing drug to cheat your way through sports who to say you want cheat at anything you in life. Yes, you may win the competition but I must say in the long run you have lost much
Creating caps are great ways to help generate interest around normally uninteresting teams. Not as nearly enough people will go to games to see their home team lose. I mean having the highest team salary doesn't guarantee a championship but having the lowest salary usually means you have no chance. It's completely unfair and stupid. Teams today that are not in big market cities are completely at a disadvantage.
Surely some athletes love to compete, and would do so with or without an audience. There is undoubtedly quite a few athletes who are in it for the fame, and the money. Without the audience, these people wouldn't find a point in performing. Perhaps those who sit on the sidelines at a sporting event contribute in ways they do not realize. Without them, maybe sports would not be so popular.
Some people who are feeling inadequate then see that person and begin to think they can never possibly be that thus giving up on that “thing”. Competition is there to improve us and if you don’t think that you can do a trait better then the next guy, success is obsolete. Competition is the only way for success in our society. Competition brings some kind of success to everyone in some aspect. We have to compete in school, physical activity, and the social realm to keep improving our world.
