Introductory Speech “5 Sides of Self” Side One consists of “Self-Concept”, the overall view we have of our self and the perception we have of our skills, abilities, competencies, and personality (Baron, Byrne, & Branscombe, 2006), (Communication 14th Ed, Verderber, Kathleen S. & Rudolf, Sellnow D. Deanna, p-30). Our perceptions have been shaped by others at some point of our lives and independent and interdependent views play a role in shaping our thoughts. At other times, I reflect a woman who thinks of all the abilities she does process, and the possibilities that come along with a healthy outlook and self esteem. Side Two is “Reflected Appraisal/Self Fulfilled Prophecies”, the things that other people see (p 34) and predictions I make of myself. At times, these are fancied; while at other times are real. This is how I truly want to be and through self-monitoring, I am becoming better at presenting, what you see is actually what you get instead of presenting
