Hook, Line, and Sinker If my life has had one defining constant it would certainly be fishing. Through this sport I have learned many different things that would affect my life. Fishing gave me an education on patience and self discipline. Becoming a good fisherman takes many hour of practicing on the water. Only through trial and error can one learn the ins and outs of fishing. As a beginner, one can become confused and easily frustrated. Once I learned the patterns and signs of the fish, this is when fishing became a major passion in my life. So many times you hear stories of unsuccessful outdoors enthusiasts, especially while in the pursuit of their specifically targeted game fish. Many people often read magazines and articles and rush out to try their hand at fishing, and only to become discouraged and frustrated with their unsuccessful outings. Studying and surveying the natural food sources of the lakes and rivers is a must to be successful. You can look at reports and studies of what type of fish may inhabit your lake of interest. The more familiar you become with the body of water the better your experience will be. The weather plays a major part in the feeding habit of fish. For example, during a storm the fish become very inactive, almost sluggish. Right before, or during a thunderstorm, the fish hide in underwater shelter. Although on the other hand, just before a storm can be some of the most productive times for fishing. The fish can sense or if you will, predict the length of the severe weather. This forces the fish to feed and often feed heavily, depending on how big or small the storm is. The number one mistake people make is their bait selection. By studying the natural food sources in a body of water, one can gain an advantage over other fisherman. The fish will be less cautious in their approach if the bait is something they have been
