English Comp I Writing to Describe First Impressions of a Newly Found Paradise Being a New England native and resident my entire life, it was hard for me to imagine the impact that such a faraway place could have on my view of the world’s weather and landscapes. With our frigidly cold winters, scorching summers, rainy springs, and chilly falls, I figured I had seen it all. Living in such a volatile climate made me think that I had experienced most of what the world had to offer, but then there I was, discovering Hawaii for the first time. The transition between the stale, musky-mildew, air-conditioned airplane and my first breathe of fresh and warm Hawaiian air was invigorating. I felt as if I was jolted back to life. There was an immediate plethora of floral scents that I had never experienced. As I inhaled again, I could almost taste beautiful, soft, sweet, lively flowers. The smell was so pleasing. It brought images of a fresh rain forest filled with wild tropical flowers of all colors and sizes. Each one had its own unique perfume and identity like island natives claiming their territory and announcing their presence. It was impossible to resist such welcoming beauty drawing me in and seducing me to renounce the smog filled air back home, saturated with all its man-made toxins. I couldn’t wait to see what could be creating such intoxicating fragrances. I visualized how the flowers all lived harmoniously amongst each other mixed amid a rainbow colored blanket sprawling the mountainous regions. The tropical breeze carried the warmth and sweetness of the island life with it. As it brazed my skin, I felt all the hairs on my body reach out to it as if trying to catch it. All the follicles became receptors of the island life and atmosphere. I could sense the richness of the air. It was as if it carried the sweet nectar of all the island inhabitants
