children who turn 3 between January and March receive their free place at the start of the summer term. They are entitled to 10 hrs per week throughout the school year which needs to be evenly distributed. The government funds this for all children between the ages of 3 and 4 before joining school at the age of 5. If any extra hrs are needed the parent/carer must pay for this. Even though this education is readily available for all children it is not compulsory to send your child until they reach the age of 5.
TDA 3.2 1.1 - Summerise the entitlement and provision for early years education, this should include 3 to 4 year old funding and EYFS framework and curriculum. All children aged 3 to 4 are entiltled to part time education, this is granted by the local authorities through Government funds. The other main crime that people receiving welfare can be accused of is "dependency." In August 1996, after 18 months of debate, Congress passed and President Clinton signed into law the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act. This welfare reform law has transformed the way the nation helps its neediest citizens it ended 61 years of AFDC guaranteed cash assistance to every eligible poor family with children. Gone is the promise of a government check for parents raising children in poverty. In its place are 50 state programs to help those parents get jobs.
Department of Education in the late 1990s called the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, which attempts to measure the academic progress of more than 20,000 children from kindergarten through fifth grade. The data show that the following factors affect a child's school performance, either negatively or positively: the child has highly educated parents, the child's parents have high socioeconomic status, the child's mother is thirty or older at the time of her first child's birth, the child has low birth weight, the child's parents speak English in the home, the child is adopted, the child's parents are involved in the PTA, and the child has many books in his home. Of these factors, low birth weight, being adopted and being in a non-English-speaking home affects a child's school performance negatively. The data also show that the following factors do not affect a child's school performance, either negatively or positively: the child's family is intact, the child's parents have recently moved into a better neighborhood, the child's mother does not work between birth and kindergarten, the child attends Head Start, the child's parents regularly take him to museums, the child is regularly spanked, the child frequently watches television, and the child's parents read to him nearly every day. The authors note that, generally, the factors that do not tend to affect the child's school performance, either negatively or positively, are things that parents do, whereas the factors that do tend to affect the child's school performance are what the parents
These programs are usually free to those families that qualify. Many times families run into hardships or even for our young teen moms want to finish school they now have an opportunity to receive free childcare while they get on their feet. These programs also offer other programs that help families in need such as free diapers, milk, clothing, and housing/shelter assistance. Project Head Start and Early Head Start has had a great impact on me because I have had the opportunity to work for both programs for 5 years. Many times the children I worked with came in hungry, tired, and sometimes dirty.
