Dowling April 27, 2009 Firestone Recall Case Study What is the reason for this being a second recall for Firestone? Is the problem stemming from the manufacturing of the tires or the vehicles these tires are utilized on? The purpose of this paper is to show the problems that have occurred for vehicles that have Firestone/Bridgestone tires on them. As a result of the problem, this has forced Firestone to have a second recall. A factual report to support this recall gives the needed information to cover the case of Firestone and the recall. This paper will isolate the problem with issues and problems that have resulted, formulate a solid evaluation of the case, analytically evaluate alternatives, determine if alternatives are plausible, and decide on the most valid alternative. Last, this paper will make recommendations on what must be done to solve the reoccurring problem. Researching and determining all the facts in the case study has helped with identifying symptoms of problems, root problems, unresolved issues, and roles of key players. Further insight will be provided concerning the identified problems of the recall; followed by an analytical evaluation of the alternatives. Finally, recommendations on what must be done, including specific functions and activities addressing the Firestone Tire recall. Symptoms of Problem During year 2000, the Firestone Tire recall case involved more than 250 deaths and in excess of 3000 injuries. Many of the accident were caused by a blown out tire, which resulted in the vehicle rolling over and causing harm to the passengers and driver of the vehicle.
