Finding of the Study and discussion of Fostering Problem Solving & Creative Thinking in the Classroom: Cultivating a Creative Mind! Introduction Good education requires good teachers is a truism that none could contradict. Although there are many variables that contribute to effective education, such as adequate buildings, classrooms and teaching and learning materials, the most crucial factor is the quality of interaction that occurs between the teacher and the student. We need good, effective and creative teachers in the process of strengthening and upgrading education and are important towards fostering problem solving and creative thinking in the classroom. True to what Guilford, (1959, p.2) wrote “that the preservation of the nation’s way of life and future security depends upon…intellectual abilities and more important, creative abilities.” Thus it is important individual have the ability to have creative thinking skills and problem solving skills. Hamzah & Griffith. (2006) in their article on the study of Fostering Problem solving and Creative Thinking in the Classroom: Cultivating a Creative Mind. National Forum of Applied Educational Research Journal- Electronic Vol 19.No 3 showed how teachers created and foster learning environment that promotes creative thinking and problem solving skills in the classroom. The article was a study on a complex nature of creativity and problem solving acquired by students through various extraordinary instructional approaches, styles, and methodologies by exemplary teachers. What I intend to do in this paper is to discuss why and how the researcher carried out the research, and what teaching methods and classroom climates created by exemplary teachers in which creative thinking and problem solving skills were promoted.
