Ryan Casey November 1, 2011 Research Paper English One of the most important events that have happened in the world of female athletics is the establishment of the Educational Amendments of 1972. These amendments assure that everyone who wants an education is treated equally no matter what race or gender, to create opportunities for everyone. Most important of those amendments is Title IX. It states that no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. Title IX applies to all educational institutions, both public and private, that receive federal funds. Almost all private colleges and universities must abide by Title IX. Athletics are not the specific target for Title IX; Athletics programs are considered educational programs and activities. Title IX requires the equal treatment of female and male student-athletes such as equipment, games, tutoring. Today more girls are encouraged to participate in sports and activities. College is now a possible option in a young woman's decision for post high school plans. This has been a good thing for woman but they are still taking away things from men that shouldn’t be touched. There are people out there that haven’t been effected by this and don’t really care. However people out there that were affected and their education were taken away from them. When this came into play many people that were going to college on scholarships began to worry. These young adults would worry everyday praying that their schools wouldn’t be affected.
