Also, companies that invest a lot in research and development, also normally place a lot of patents for their proprietary process, knowledge or technology that will let them stand out, and so be more successful. This is supported with the fact that some of the most successful companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung, each of these are leaders in their industry spend good amount of resources on R&D and have a large number of patents that are filed regularly. Sony is determined to lead the technology industry by continuously developing new and innovative products that give the company a competitive advantage. Sony has a convergence strategy that involves bringing together several different technologies and forms of media in a manner that links them together and integrates their applications for customer convenience. The concept involves bringing together computers, consumer electronic devices, and telecommunications which will create new possibilities and experiences for Sony’s customers (Sony Corporation, 2012). Sony is developing new hardware, software for both existing and future hardware platforms, media content, and services that customers will appreciate and enjoy.
Summary In recent years, customer interaction with financial institutions like American Express (AMEX) has evolved to become more dependent on mobile transaction platforms and web based interfaces. Companies who can demonstrate the ability to bring new products and services to market more quickly are rewarded. As a result, the payments industry has recognized the need to develop enterprise architecture (EA) to support the complexity of new products and services, new delivery channels, and the need for greater agility. AMEX embraced the challenge through implementation of a highly successful, highly standardized, EA that has enabled AMEX to streamline processes and do business more effectively using IT resources. Their brand not only speaks for itself, but their wealth of technology and ever changing innovations allows their customers to connect globally across a number of devices and products. Apple also strategically locates and acquires businesses that will enhance the Apple experience, gain more customers, and boost their bottom line. We will examine these factors, as well as main competitors, and offer recommendations for combating conversion or acquisition of customers and business opportunities.
