Fighting against teen drug abuse Over the past years, the government has been playing a leading role to combat teen drug abuse in Hong Kong through various means. The actions taken include designing eye-catching posters and slogans to show the hazards of abusing drugs, holding anti-drug talks by the Social Welfare Department, and implementing drug-testing scheme in selected schools. Despite of these actions, the percentage of junior secondary school students who take drugs is still on the rise. The increasing figure can be shown via the data collected by the Narcotics Division. The Narcotics Division, which is under the Security Bureau, compared statistics on the number of reported drug abusers, and found that the percentage of junior secondary school students rises from 68% to 73% in the first half of 2012 and 2013 respectively. As the 2013 figure shows the insufficient actions taken by the government, teens and their parents should throw their support in fighting against teen drug abuse. In an attempt to stop teen drug abuse, parents should participate in more anti-drug sharing to gain more knowledge about the issue of drug abuse. The term “drug abuse” may be unfamiliar to parents. Therefore, parents can learn more about drug abusing behaviors through anti-drug sharing. One of the sharing organized by the Society for the Aid and Rehabilitation of Drug Abusers was called the “Blossom Heart” programme. This progamme invited several recovered drug addicts to share their triumph stories, which provided parents with insights and inspirations to help fight against teen drug abuse.
