Fiction is a type of story that comes from an author’s imagination. Nonfiction is a type of writing that deals with real people, places, and events. Both of these have things in common but a lot of things that are different. There are many types of Nonfiction writings. They are: Autobiographies, Biographies, Essays, Informative Articles, and interviews. Fiction however, only has two different types: Short Stories and Novels. Nonfiction contains factual detail unlike fiction. An Autobiography is a nonfiction writing that is a story about ones life told by that person. Autobiographies always use first person point of view such as I and me. An autobiography usually has to be in chronological order for it to make sense. On the other hand, any fiction writing doesn’t have to be in chrological order because it’s up to the writer’s decision. A novel is a story that has a more complicated plot than a short story. It takes a longer time while a short story is a short story that is easily read in one period of time. Both nonfiction and fiction have some of the same elements of literature like characters and setting. However, in nonfiction, instead of calling them characters, we just call them people. There are many differences in Nonfiction and Fiction. One thing was left out. That one thing is: How to read Fiction and Nonfiction. Fiction and Nonfiction are read differently. A few steps should be taken to read Fiction and Nonfiction properly. To read fiction, first you look at the title and illustrations. The way to start off reading Nonfiction is to look at the title, pictures, diagrams, subtitles, and bold or italic words. Next, clarify if the writing is an autobiography or a biography. Most autobiographies and biographies are in chronological order. Look for signal words such as: first, last, and etc. The second step for fiction however is to connect. That means to
