The cold, rough waves were splashing hard on my face and the salty water kept on flowing into my mouth. The air in my lungs started to escape bit by bit until it felt so tight that my lungs might have ruptured. The pain in my right leg became worse and my body became heavier and more sore too. Slowly, I sank into a bottomless, gloomy sea. The image of the calm, relaxing sea turning into a deadly trap flashed through my mind. I woke up and found my body covered in sweat and my heart pounding hard as if it’s going to pop out of my chest. I was only eight years old when it all began on a Saturday morning. My family and I went to the beach named as the Blue Lagoon near my house to celebrate my brother’s 11th birthday. The day was warm and windy, and the beach filled with white, sparkling sand and coconut trees that danced under the vibrant sun and cool breeze. There were many people on the beach; many of them were doing water sports such as surfing, scuba diving, kayaking and water skiing while some others were just taking a sun bath like my parent. There were also some children that ran around on the beach and built their imaginary sand castle. After I gobbled up some food, I jumped into the tempting sea straight away and the first thing I realized was the touch of the warm water on my skin. It was like a mother’s tender arms wrapping tight around her little baby, giving him protection and care. I could also feel the pleasantness of the sea breeze flowed by my body and the sun’s warmth and cheer on my face. Several tanned, medium-built guys were also surfing proficiently at a spot that’s not far away from me. My mom was shouting behind me, “Boon Hwa, don’t go too deep into the sea!
