Nick Gerde 4/11/10 Professor Kahn POL 105 The Federalist Papers The Federalist Papers are a collection of eighty five essays written by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay (also known as Publius), between October 1787 and May 1788. They were written at the time to convince New York State to ratify the U.S. Constitution. They are perhaps the most famous newspaper columns ever written, and today form one of the most important documents of America's founding period. They provide the justification for the Constitution and label some of the most important political issues associated with popular self government. It refers to the distinguishing characteristics, including ways of thinking, feeling, and acting, that humans tend to have naturally. It is something that is still studied today by psychologists today, in fact it is a majority of their practice. By having a good sense of human nature, one can almost predict the outcome of a situation, just by either knowing the person or the kind of person they are. I feel as if the current government uses human nature to their advantage in the government system we have today. Wether it is a government agency or the President of the United States, all can use human nature to their advantage. For example the FBI or CIA tries to predict the next move of the person that they are trying to catch. Or the President gives a speech and can easily persuade an audience with his words. The current government does a great job of controlling the issues related to human nature. Publius wrote the Federalist Papers in order to create a working government that could account for human nature and control the rise of factions. Publius did just that and has created a base for our government to stand on since the creation of the papers. They showed that through the creation of remedies to correct certain ills, they could create well balanced government. The creation of the Federalist Papers was just the beginning of how we have prevailed as such a successful nation and have helped to guide the United States to be the land of the free, and the home of the
