Patrick Rucinski Narrative Essay ENG101-48 August 31, 2013 Fearless Child Most of us are a little hesitant when it comes to doing something for the first time, especially if it has the potential for grave injury. Most kids are tentative when stretching their limits. Like jumping off the swing at the park or riding their bike without training wheels for the first time. It’s a natural thing for their little bodies to stop, or hesitate, and think about what could possibly happen. Well, for my youngest child, Gabriella, this is not the case. She has no such reaction. She is only three years old and sometimes I think she was born without the feeling of fear at all. She does not stop to think about anything at all before she tries something that could be dangerous. My parents claim that she is “her Fathers daughter”, meaning that I was the same way. They often tell stories about things that I did when I was very young that were both surprising and scary. One example of Gabby’s fearlessness that comes to mind is the day my parents and I decided to take my two little girls to go sledding. We loaded up the Jeep with all the necessary gear and took them somewhere they hadn’t been before near Lockport, New York. Isabel, my seven year old daughter, has really become the “Expert” at sledding over the last few winters. Gabby on the other hand, who was only two at the time, had only been sledding a few times before this trip. Thus far, she had only gone down hills accompanied by an adult. But Gabby always wants to do whatever her big sister is doing. On the way there she had been bugging me to go down the big hill on her own. “Daddy, I’m a big girl now so I can go down all by myself”, she would say, with complete confidence in herself. I would respond with “We’ll see sweetheart, we’ll see”, knowing all too well that she would soon bring the topic back up. I’m somewhat of
