“Fate” The sunlight beamed across my room. I woke up to a brand new day. I looked at the clock and it said 7:30 a.m. It is time foe me to get up for school. I jumped out of bed and went to the bathroom to start my day. I can smell the scent of bacon coming from downstairs, Momma must be making breakfast. As I started to brush my teeth, I just knew today would be like no other. I was so excited to start a new school year. My girls and I were ready to rule, once again. I showered and got dressed. As I started to make my way towards the door, my mother stopped me in my tracks. “Brittany, I want ya ass in this house before 4:00, I need you to be home to let Rashad in the house from school, do you hear me!” “Yes ma’am, I hear you.” I tried my best to ignore her because my mind was so busy focused on my day at school. I ran to the twenty two bus stop and waited for the bus to come. Ten minutes later the bus came packed with school kids. That fifteen minute ride felt like forever. With everyone brushing pass me, I took a deep breathe and exited the bus. “I don’t kno bout yaw, but im going to class”, I said. My best friends, Jasmine and Ronisha knew we had to be to class by nine. She Ms. Jackson didn’t play that. At nine oh one the doors were locked. She stood in front of the class with her pleaded skirt, white button down and neck tie. Ms. Jackson had glasses like a magnifying glass, she had bumpy rough skin and she was standing about six feet tall. We would always make jokes. “I don’t know how she gotta man.” Anything to keep our mind of reality. The reality that we were in the eighth grade. To us, it was one of the most important years of our lives. The year that would determine what high school we’d go to, GOSH, how we could not wait.
