Fat and water soluble vitamins In this essay we will be covering the classification of vitamins, why it’s important to take vitamins on a daily basis, what are fat soluble vitamins, and water soluble vitamins and the high nutrient sources of these vitamins. We will also be discussing what are the benefits, and the risks of vitamin consumptions when added to a daily intake. According to the national institute of health, the body needs 13 vitamins in order to have normal health. These vitamins include vitamins A, C, D, E, K and B complex, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B6, B12, and folate (Farris, 2012). Each of those vitamins provides various responsibilities for the body. With a normal well balanced healthy diet a person can acquire all those vitamins just mentioned, but we know everyone don’t eat a healthy diet daily, so some people can really benefit from taking vitamins on a daily basis. Vitamins are classified primarily as to solubility. Some are soluble in fat and some soluble in water. Vitamins that are soluble in fat are vitamin A, D, E, and K which are stored in fat and liver cells in the body. Vitamin A is essential when it comes to vision, more importantly night vision, bone growth, and mucous membranes. Vitamin A can also be found in most fruits and vegetables, pumpkins, carrots and apricots. Vitamin D provides calcium and phosphorous, this vitamin is good for bones, teeth, and cartilage. Vitamin E helps to generate red blood cells and keep the blood from clotting. Vitamin D can also help with maintaining your weight while helping your metabolism. Eating more salmon, sardines, and oily fish, also milk can work well with the vitamins D; as well these foods have vitamin D in them.
