The book Fast Food Nations by Eric Schlosser is written to give the viewers an understanding on where their money is heading to when they purchase fast food. The Book is separated into 2 sections, “The American Way” and “Meat and Potatoes.” The book provides a sort of historical background of the fast food industries. It also shows the dark side of the industry. Such as unsafe and unsanitized slaughterhouses with zero respect to the employees. He provides factual evidence to back up this information. He even provides a lot of pathos or emotions to the reader. One such story talks about a really healthy adult being infected with contaminated ground beef and his experiences with it. That alone shows the effects of unsanitized slaughterhouses, if the cattle are infected when being slaughtered. That single cattle can jeopardize the entire food supply. Schlosser effectively communicates the fact that “fast food is bad for you” with tons of evidence ranging from news articles, factual events such as recalls, reports, and first person experiences. Most of the events lead back to Colorado Springs, Colorado due to all of the issues concerning fast food originates. Schlosser also takes experiences from labs, where scientists do various experiments to recreate the feel and taste of the food to satisfy the human from meats to fruits. This boasts the highest worst safety records in the world. He also provides information about how fast food chain restaurants work on expanding their influence and presence. One such example was McDonalds trying to have a presence in the incomplete Disneyland. But ultimately that never happened. He also addresses the danger on employment in various factories or companies.
