The cows have no say in what they have to eat so they are pretty much fed toxic garbage. Next, the food industry should be changed because each burger contains one-hundred different pieces of cows. Imagine people eating all of the cows on one farm. John White, a meat farmer, said that people are always calling him, complaining about people getting sick because of eating two bites of a burger and he is tired of it. Before, tobacco farming was very popular, but now it has changed to meat farming.
They’re rich and powerful. They promise good quality food at their restaurants, but instead their food harms others. Ads produced by fast food chains completely wash kid’s minds, making them believe some of the most ridiculous things. Workers that process they’re meat are taken advantage of and abused. Although Sinclair’s investigation tells a story of the toll the meatpacking industry took on families nearly a hundred years ago, he still offers insight into the deceiving side of America’s food corruptions. Both writers brilliantly offer realization and awareness in their books that will benefit anyone who reads them to make better decisions daily. The description of the factory farming slaughterhouses in both books is enough to send chills down almost anyone’s spine; The Jungle opens with the cruel tactics, yet Fast Food Nation did not mention the slaughterhouses until midway. As Jurgis and his family tour the packinghouse where he will be working as a shoveler,(shoveling blood and guts) they first see what seems to be millions of cows. There are rail yards that carry the cattle to the slaughterhouse where the mechanics of the process are awe-inspiring.
“The food industry doesn’t want you to know the truth about what you are eating because if you did, you might not eat it.” The sense of mystery behind our food and where it comes from just makes the viewer want to know more about the food system. The whole documentary is then broken down into chapters starting from the supermarket and ending with the government’s influence. The first part of Food Inc. talks about the actual process inside the food factories, more specifically, the corn and meat industries. These two industries are by far the bigger food industries the documentary showed.
The article, "The battle against fast food begins in the home" by Daniel Weintraub, explains how people are blaming McDonalds and other fast food restaurants such as Burger King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Starbucks, and Pizza Hut for their obesity. The author disagrees with the blaming that people are doing. I also disagree. People are blaming and sueing the fast food restaurants for the decision they have made of being unhealthy. They are making comments such as, "The problem of obesity is so staggering, so out of control, that we have to do something."
One of those reasons would be that President Roosevelt read the novel “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair. The book depicts the horrors of the Chicago meat industry. Another reason is that there were many occurrences of food poisoning resulting in death. The Federal Meat Inspection Act contains many purposes that ensure the health of the consumer. It detects and destroys diseased meat before it gets to the buyer.
Corporations make us fat Many people claim that it is personal responsibility of what you eat, however fast food corporations and their marketing strategies make it almost impossible to say no. From childhood we are conditioned to grab a large combo meal on our way home instead of going to the grocery store then cooking it ourselves. The ease, convenience, and the cheap prices make it all too easy for consumers. Corporations are to blame for America’s obesity problems because of their lack of nutritional information available to consumers, their lack of alternatives, and their brand recognition and advertisements addicting us from childhood. There is no calorie information posted in any fast food restaurant.

Also, how the treatment of the animals at the slaughterhouses contribute to food-borne illnesses. Throughout my research I have discovered many disturbing and horrifying truths about the treatment of the animals at slaughterhouses. The high demand of meat annually in the United States is astounding, mainly demanded by fast food corporations. In the United States one million animals are slaughtered every hour and around ten billion farm animals will be raised and slaughtered annually.
