In "The Battle Against Fast Food Begins in the Home," Daniel Weintraub states that parents are responsible for the increasing epidemic of overweight children.   In our world today, parents allow their children to sit around and play video games all day as well as eating unhealthy foods. Weintraub argues that parents need to take responsibility by getting children involved in some type of exercise and protect them from unhealthy foods.   If it is against the law to leave an unloaded weapon where children can find it and hurt themselves, then why is it okay for parents to allow their children to become obese? Parents need to be responsible enough to teach their children healthy eating and exercise habits.
    Parents have a lot of influence on their children from the day that child is born.   If parents teach their children how to talk, how to respect their elders, and how to grow in their religion, then they should also teach them healthy eating and exercising habits. A parent can show their children what is healthy and unhealthy through a variety of ways.   "They can make sure that a child receives a serving of fruits or vegetables at lunch and dinner, eliminate soda from the house, and even eliminate all junk food from the house" ("Helping Your Child"). From a young age, my parents taught me that healthy foods are not only good for my body, but they can also taste good. They gave me healthy alternatives for the foods I love, such as milk, bread, and chips.   This lesson has influenced me even until today when I will go and eat a salad at lunch instead of pizza or chips.
    Parents also need to show their children how fun exercise can be, like walking in the park or playing a friendly game of football with the family. They need to show children that there are other things to do than just watching TV, such as playing tag or riding a bike.   Another good thing to do is to get children involved in sports so that they can find one that they are interested in.   Children...
