Fast Food Nowadays, more and more people are relying on fast food to handle their meals for the day. In the past, it was a good way to have quick meals while traveling, commuting, or just when people wanted to eat out. Meals used to be cooked by real chefs, and served at high speeds, but now that fast food is in more and more demand, measures have to be taken to ensure the customer is satisfied. Some of these measures include freezing foods to improve shelf time. Even though the fast food companies can store much more material, the food usually has lest taste, and a “fake”, sort of taste to it. However, some fast food chains do their best to preserve the old style of service. Subway, a popular sandwich shop chain, is one of the few fast food chains who make their product right in front of their customers. They also offer healthy choices in their menu. Although lots of chains offer healthy choices nowadays, Subway is probably one of the healthiest. Panda express, an Americanized Chinese food chain, also offers healthy choices, but glamourizes the, by calling them “Wok Smart”. Moving down the line, some chains are much worse. Burger king, an American burger chain, offers value menus, but the items on the value menu are often very unhealthy. They claim to use 100% beef, and use all untraceable chicken. Many of these items include LOTS of sodium, with many items including over half of your average daily value of sodium. However, this is not the worst of them yet. McDonalds, the international monopoly of fast food, has to be the worst of all. A recent controversy has brought up an ingredient in their “beef” called pink slime. Pink slime has been proven to consist of beef byproducts and ammonia, supposedly to raise the pH and kill any pathogens that may be found in beef trimmings.
