Fashion and teenagers I’ve chosen to write about this subject because I’ve got some strong opinions about it. I love to see people dress in their own way, because I believe that we show a part of ourselves in the way we dress. But it’s just too rarely that I see this happen. In my eyes, fashion is something you adopt, when you don’t know who you truly are. Initially, fashion meant to stand out of the crowd. To be the valiant one with all the unusual, but cool clothing. Somehow, society has changed fashion into something that everyone wears. Fashion is no longer about being the one who dares. It’s about being like everybody else. I hate this exact thing about fashion. It turns people into these robots that dress and act as if they were programmed into being like everyone else. Fortunately for me, we live in the Faroe Islands. A land which is inadequate with fashion. As long as the clothing contains wool, it’s stylish. And that’s about all the fashion we’ve got. People are free to wear whatever they want to without being judged as hard as people are in other countries. A good example about these judgements is America. America is a well known fashion industry. They’ve got sufficient fashion everywhere. They’ve got runways, models, fashion magazines and mannequins everywhere you look. But with all this, judgements follow. In certain communities, people who dress “differently” are treated with deficiently respect. People judge them from their looks. But please don’t get my negative attitude wrong. I am aware that fashion is about creating new and artistic ideas. And I think that’s great. The world would be rather boring, if we still wore gowns like they did in medieval times. As long as the fashion is organized, it’s excellent.
