Fashion is not only influenced by culture and society, but also by a countries climate, environment, or by the personal experiences, beliefs, and values of an individual. The ways in which cultures have dressed and behaved has often changed throughout history and differs from one another throughout the world. If we observe a person’s outfit we can learn a thing or two about their culture and who they are. The term fashion is thoroughly new to many. Literally speaking fashion came into being with the advent of human being in this world from the beginning of time. Adam and Eve covered themselves with fig leaves, however, at that time they had no concept of modesty. Ornamentation and adornment have always been a strong force behind the clothing of civilizations. Civilizations from different time periods had different fashion views. People of Stone Age tattooed their bodies, used leaves and twigs to cover their naked bodies as to Pharaohs on the other hand loved to display their wealth by clothing in most extravagant ways. They wore wigs, painted their bodies, and embalmed their dead in most beautiful clothes and jewellery. Some countries around the globe have rules and regulations created by their head of government to control what people wear. It is a way to visually separate the lower class from the upper class. The development, progress, and the richness of a country, are often attested to by the evolution of clothing. Chinese emperors once wore clothing with the imprints of dragons which symbolized the emperor himself. If any of the public was caught wearing such clothing, they were imprisoned or in the worst cases executed. Many cultures in different parts of the world will use fashion as a teaching method for history.
