Skills in how to communicate effectively with both the pediatric patient and their parents are important for a nurse to foster to maintain good therapeutic relationships. Person centred care becomes family centred care when babies and children are the patients. The dependent nature of the patient increases the need for parental responsibility and advocacy for the child. It is important for all members of the family to be taken into account when nursing a pediatric patient, especially the primary caregivers and siblings. Chochinov, 2007 (cited in Cornwell & Goodrich, 2009), states simply that compassion is ‘a deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it.’ Pediatric patients and their families are highly sensitive to the compassionate nature of health care professionals and a successful therapeutic relationship with them depends on the sensitive, compassionate care offered by the nurse.
The Family Center Care (FCC) is an advance to the planning, delivery and evaluation of health care that is founded in the similarities of partnerships among health care providers, patients, and families. The FCC enables health care practitioners the importance of creating relationships with family members of the patients whether the patient are little children or adults. They recognize that social, emotional and developmental support systems are important aspects to look for in health care. The Family Center Care promotes better outcomes of patient care because families are there to restore self-esteem and control them in a well manner. It leads to better outcomes and it creates better patient and family satisfaction.
To optimize patient and family outcomes during resuscitation, nurses who are confident of their abilities in managing family presence can be assigned to code teams, rapid response teams, and family care during resuscitations. In the same way, nurses who favor family presence and are confident of their ability to manage the practice may act as role models for novice nurses, mentor experienced nurses, teach family presence at the bedside, serve on code teams, and lead change in units that do not practice family presence during resuscitation. (p. 109) Ultimately, much more work is needed in regards to family presence during resuscitation efforts. As the study showed, nurses are all doing something different based on the level of self confidence they demonstrate. Research, with the institution of policies and procedures will be key factors in the advancement of family presence during resuscitation efforts.
I talk to my patients and their families about balanced diets, physical activities, fresh air, and having close personal relationships are in regards to health and balance. According to Jordan mindfulness is “as an individual learning process characterized by a heightened awareness of the specific circumstances in a given situation”(2009, p. 168). Mindfulness allows me to deliver safe and effective care to my patients. Being mindful is vital to my nursing practice. “Today’s healthcare environment is turbulent, rapidly presenting nurses with stimuli, interruptions, and competing priorities.
A family who has to make any choice, whether it be palliative or “full steam ahead”, in the presence of a terminal situation for their loved one, is brave. As healthcare practitioners, we need to honor and respect the difficult decisions made for our patients by their families no matter what our personal and professional experience “tells us” is the right path. Strategies Three strategies to promoting the health of this family the community health nurse (CHN) can address include, providing education and speciality physician consultation regarding the appropriate and safe use of
This journal, begun in 1995, has been vital to the advancement of family nursing as it has given family nurses a place to share their thoughts and research. There is, however, disagreement over what family nursing actually encompasses (Hanson, 2001; Wright & Leahey, 2000), and how it differs from community health nursing (Friedman, 1986) and family therapy (Gilliss, Rose, Hallburg, & Martinson, 1989; Wright & Leahey, 1994). A review of the family nursing literature reveals that within the definition of family nursing family nursing practice is described in different ways. The way family nursing is practiced depends on how the family nurse conceptualizes the family and works with it. The degree of family-centeredness also is dependent on the philosophy of the system within which the nurse works.
But hospice is a way for people to prioritize the wishes of the patient and the family and is in no way "giving up." It is a specialized care and support that works to create ease and comfort for the patient and the family” (Geisman, 2007-2014, para. 2-3). Also of great importance are the needs of the family members for support during this time. Hospice is a comprehensive holistic service

Family Nursing Since the time of Florence Nightingale, nurses have had family at the forefront of their minds whilst caring for an individual (Wilson 2004). The holistic approach of the nursing model should convey to nurses the importance of the family on the health and the illness of individuals (Friedemann 2002). The term ‘family’ is a complicated one and its different definitions will be discussed within this essay; as it can evoke different meanings not only out-with individual countries but also within a country (Friedemann 2003). The two traditional familial structures are decreasing, whereas a variety of other familial structures, including same-sex couples, are not only increasing but not being seen as ‘abnormal’ (Hanson, 2005). No matter the structure or location, it will be shown all families provide the same support and function.
Pediatric nurses know a lot about the growth and development of children, and they need to be skilled in communication with both their patients and caregivers. Always smile, having endless patience, and a friendly personality to make the experience of staying in a hospital a lot less scary for kids, and show them the brighter side of life. The responsibilities of a pediatric nurse is to taking temperatures, blood pressure, and heart rate of the patient, but the major duty of a pediatric nurse is to care for the patients overall health.
