“If there is no struggle there is no progress,” these words spoken by Fredrick Douglas, reflect the essence of my families’ motivation to stay strong and always peruse a better life. This quote is especially significant to me because it reflects my drive and passion to achieve my own dreams in life. My parents played a major role in inspiring me to help other people, and to work hard to achieve my goals; they thought me by example. I realized that I have been blessed to have the parents that I do. I deeply value what they have thought me: the strength, integrity, and compassion for others.
The book, China’s Son, perfectly shows how family caused effect on Chen Da, and made him become successful. Although there are many reasons why someone can achieve their dream and the first thing we think of is their hard work. Hard working isn’t the only factor that makes people succeed; research had shown “23 percent of educational attainment is determined by environment, implying that up to 77 percent is determined by nature” (U.S Elementary and Secondary School). There are many causes and factors to make a successful person, and family background and environment is the main reason behind succeed among all of others. Family along can’t make someone become successful, but it’s the main influence behind someone had
Witnessing my mother going through her struggles and overcome her addiction crack to gain her life and family back has helped me to see there is a future. Watching my stepdad accept my mother with all her faults in the beginning of their relationship and be there to help her heal taught me this lesson. I learned to forgive and forget and use your past as your lesson for the future. Today, my mother is a focused, stronger person because of what she went through. She has gained more than what she had before.
Although she was raised in an Orthodox Jewish family, she married a black man, and then went on the raise all her children as Christians. Although facing adversity for these reasons, James McBride and his siblings still became successful, mostly because of the strength his mother provided for his family. All of the McBride children were put through college by his mother, even though they often struggled with finances. McBride tells how certain events in his everyday life and his background shaped and molded him into who he is today. I believe that in writing this book, McBride is establishing the fact that he is very proud of his success and how his mother was key in helping him accomplish it, but most of all, proud of his mother for being who she was.
David eventually damaged the Dodge in a one car accident. His parents were then able to return the Dodge back to the dealership. David went to the dealership to retrieve his Pontiac, but was told that he couldn’t have that back, but could take the Dodge
She is the most loving, caring, accepting, and hilarious person I have ever met because of that place and those people. She found people to support her through her pain, to help her raise us. My siblings and I didn’t need a father after that, we had a whole church full of fathers, and extra mothers, and even more brothers and sisters. After my father sobered up and begged to be part of our lives again, we added one more man to the pile of fathers that we had. We had great men in our lives to help my mother guide us, and I see now how courageous my father was to come back and attempt to be a father.
I bought her a hot-water heater, and another one when it wore out…They were tiny things, inconsequential things. I did them because I was supposed to, because it was my turn to do things for her, and because I was trying to make up for any wrong I had ever done her.” (Bragg, pg. 151) His mother made many sacrifices for her boys when she was growing up, and Bragg was compassionate to his mother. He loved her so much and wanted her to live a comfortable life. This can strike a note with most readers, as most people feel attached to their mothers and would do anything to make them happy.
Those few years were very hard, especially on my own. Finally, I realized in the end all you can really count on is your family and now we are closer than ever. My mother once told me the best thing she ever did was not listen to her parents and get her degree and I intend to do the
Respect and obedience is also a major value in my family. My children are to always remain respectful to anyone that’s their elder. However, as they come of age, I don’t believe I will have set duties for them around the house. I believe that these tasks should be shared by both male and female. I pray that many of the religion and family values will be instilled in my daughter as well.
I have two younger brothers and two older sisters and although my sisters have created a comfortable lifestyle for themselves with just a high school education, I want to show my brothers how much further a college education can go. Also, both my parents have worked very hard throughout the years for my siblings and I, and I want to make them proud by being successful and showing them how much their love and support helped. With both of my sisters gone to live their own lives, I’m the oldest sibling still left at home with my brothers so it is important not to let them see me fail. Education is the key to life, so my parents say. It is the greatest backup plan when things go wrong and I completely agree with
