Family Vacation Essay

It was the middle of June in 1986. My family made plans for a family vacation to Disney World, in California. The day before we were supposed to leave on our trip, I became sick with the chicken pox. I was not going to be able to go anywhere, especially on our family vacation, since chicken pox is contagious. Unfortunately plans were changed; my mom and I were going to have to stay home. The rest of my family decided to continue with the original plans. The morning came and my brother, sisters and my dad were loading up our station wagon with their luggage and ice chest. All I could do is stand at the living room window and watch them get in the car, drive away and wave goodbye. My mother patted my head and said “we will make the best of this situation and make the next trip.” All I can remember was feeling sad, disappointed and upset. I ran to my room, jumped on my bed and cried myself to sleep. The next couple of days seemed like eternity to me. Bored out of my mind, all I was able to do was watch television, play board games, sleep, eat and get hollered at for scratching because I was itching all over. My family finally returned home safely. I was excited to see them, hear how their trip went and find out what they brought me back from their trip. They started telling me how much fun they had, who they met, what rides they rode and all the food they ate. My sister gave me my gift it was a half eaten bag of cotton candy and all I could do was laugh. I was still quarantined due to the chicken pox. I enjoyed hearing the different stories and experiences from their trip. I had always looked forward to going on the next trip, but unfortunately that never happened. I do plan to take my three children and spouse to Disney World in Orlando, Florida one day and have a whole bag of cotton candy to
