The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health promotion as a process of empowerment of individuals, groups and communities, in which people gain greater control over decisions affecting their health. Health promotion is considered one of the most cost-effective methods of practicing preventive measures in the community. It stresses on the vital roles of individuals, families and community concerning healthy behavior to maintain good health and control diseases. These methods are delivered in three different settings, or levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary.
Grace house was founded in January of 1985, through a community-based movement treating women dealing issue including substance abuse. Grace House has been serving for 29 years, and has treated more than two thousand women and still continue to treat women at both locations in New Orleans, Louisiana. Those two location are at1401 Delachaise Street, New Orleans, LA 70115 and 1160 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA 70130. In October of 2006 the boards of Bridge House (treatment facility for men) and Grace House agreed to merge key elements of the programs. Grace House offers long term residential substance abuse treatment designed to meet the needs of women.
Personal Health Assessment Julie Reid SCI/100 11/10/2011 James Stegge Ardell (2011) defines wellness as, “a mind set, a predisposition to adopt a series of key principles in varied life area that lead to high levels of wellbeing and life satisfaction.” A wellness mind set will protect you against temptations to blame others, avoid accountability, or make excuses when facing diversity. Wellness contains six dimensions of health; occupational, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual and emotional. The purpose of this paper is to identify three of the six dimensions of health that are my strongest and one that is my personal weakness and practices that I can incorporate to improve on my personal health. My strongest dimension of health is occupational. The occupational dimension recognizes personal satisfaction in your life through your work.
Visits to the Home Summary of First Visit Namid was approached, regarding the family assessment project and its brief description, a week prior to the first visit and verbally consented to participate. In preparation for the visit, literature pertaining to family assessment by Edelman and Mandle (2006) and Weber (2005) were reviewed. To be more aware of and sensitive to the potential health care risks commonly associated with single parent households, a literature review search using CINAHL with the search words of “single parent” and “risks” were obtained and reviewed in preparation. In addition, the standard functional health pattern nursing assessment format, found in appendix C, was used to collect and record data. The first visit took place early evening on October 18, 2008 at the residence of the N family.
