Now, the new immigrants must face the same prejudice that the former immigrants faced. At one point in history 93% of American citizens today had ancestors that migrate to America. Most Americans are immigrants, and just because their ancestors came before someone else’s to America doesn’t make them superior. You don’t have to be a certain, culture, heredity, or color to be an
I think America’s vastness has been crucial in luring people from abroad and in shaping American attitudes and aspirations. It is unnatural to perceive many limits on what a person can say or do, or how he or she may choose to live or worship. In New York, for a long time with millions of immigrants, with the result that it became the most ethnically mixed of all the nation’s
Many thought that they, indeed, had a better chance to succeed in the United States than in the Old Country. And because millions of those immigrants succeeded, Americans came to believe in equality of opportunity. B-Price for Equality of Opportunity: Competition 1- Chance to be equal but not the right It is important to understand what Americans mean when they say they believe in equality. First of all, it is equality of opportunity; they do not mean that everyone is or should be equal. The only equality they believe in is equality before the law, and the rest is equality of opportunity.
He argued that social development studies showed changes in their social behaviors and their interactions once in their new environment. Thus, he concluded that the new society was uniquely America. He has a very valid argument, but I believe he could have maintained the strength of his argument while also including the fact that the American people coming from British roots, the Puritans, the Royalist elites, the North Midlanders of England and the North British and Irish were still unique as a sub-culture melded together by the choice for religious and economic freedom. The pursuit to own land and accumulate wealth, and not be under the rule of the crown was first and foremost in the early colonists minds. Fisher rests his entire point of view based on the roots of the four British folkways that separated the settlers in America.
It is important to keep a balance of the important things in one’s life otherwise, weaknesses can be developed that shadows over a person’s natural strength to prioritize. A balance of the important things in one’s life is what allows personal success to be achieved. Successfulness is the ability to seize new opportunities and explore new paths in life. Balance is the key to success because when there is balance in one’s life there is a cut back of stress, which makes room for the ability to thrive; and a person’s ability to thrive is what carries them to their personal success. To be successful is to understand what is important to you, to recognize your weaknesses without hiding behind them, to strive for balance as well as open new doors in life.
In my opinion, the theoretical perspective described in the articles by Gelles which I believe provides the most useful explanation for family violence as a social problem is the resource theory. According to Gelles, “The resource theory of family violence assumes that all society systems (including the family) rest to some degree on force or the threat of force. The more resources – social, personal, and economic – a person can command, the more force he or she can muster” (Gelles, p.307) But later on the paragraph Gelles began to reference to William Goode (1971) where when a person has more resources the less likely force will be used as a solution. For example, when a guy who does not have a high position at work and is always looked down upon, he might take his frustration at home where he can be more dominant and feel more powerful as a man. Men usually need to feel like they have control over something in their life.

One of the main things that is American is the right to vote. In a lot of countries, the leaders are all selected by one particular group, or council, or are given that position because they are the next heir in a long line of family members. Being able to choose the officials that govern us is a really big deal. Unfortunately, being American also means that you have the right to vote, or not to vote. More and more, less and less people are voting, especially those of a younger age.
In addition to legal and physical hardships involved with immigration there can also be cultural hardships. American have a distinct culture which can strongly conflict with that of the country of origin. Large immigrant population tend to stick together in districts or neighborhoods but generations inevitably branch out and fully integrate, until eventually the languages from the homeland stop being passed down. But just as America changes the immigrants, the immigrants also change America. This is the 'melting pot' theory that everyone brings a little piece of the homeland culture with them which over time become adopted into American culture as well.
Not everyone who applies to immigrate to the United States is accepted. Immigrants are judged on their ability to support themselves and their dependants and their capacity to contribute to American society. Therefore, by definition, legal immigrants are those most likely to contribute to American society: Simply put, they are a potential asset. There are also strong moral arguments in favor of immigration. In the first place every America, with the exception of Native Americans is an immigrant.
