In some cases however, if the expectant mother is very sick during the pregnancy, it is understandable to be paid during her pregnancy so she can pay for the medication to help with morning sickness. If the governement paid expectant mothers while they are pregnant, then some woman may continue to get pregnant then abandon their baby's so they can continue to get money. If the expectant mothers are working, and are receiving pay from their work, and living off that pay, they do not need the extra money from the government just because they are pregnant. There are other people in this world who are in need of that money instead. It would not be right if expectant mothers were to get money added to their work pay.
Assess sociological explanations for the increasing diversity of the family There are many different types of family in the world today, not just the traditional nuclear families there are also many more lone parent and same sex families. In the world there has been a massive increase in the diversity of the family. There are now many types of family now; the nuclear family, the extended family, lone parent families, same sex families, reconstituted families etc. Statistic show that 65% of all families in the UK are nuclear. This has decreased massively as time has gone on.
Moreover because of these birth control techniques family sizes have decreased as more and more women now have more control over births than they did in the 1900’s, so they are choosing to have less children as a result of this. Secondly women’s position in society has changed; they have become more equal to men and are given more equal opportunities in workplaces, as Rapoport (1969) termed “dual-career
The main type of marriage in Britain is Monogamy because it is not needed to be a part of any religion. Polygyny and Polyandry are similar to each other and less common because they are associated with a specific religion. Statistically, first time marriages are decreasing and re-marriages are steadily increasing. The marriage rate in the UK has declined from 7.1 marriages per 1000 people in 1981, to 5.2 marriages per 1000 people in 2005. These statistics show that marriage remains popular despite the reduction in the number of marriages.
Item A states that only half as many people are getting married today. There are many reasons why marriage rates have decreased over the years. Religious significance has dropped dramatically in many western countries including the U.K. Many people no longer feel that marriage is essential. As less people are religious, they are more likely to cohabit or divorce without fear of ‘living a sin’.
This created a greater sexual relationship between the wife and the husband. They were less willing to allow their children to get into their relationship. They wanted fewer children to work on their relationship. This was one of the reasons birth control was created. This created a freer woman that was able to smoke, drink and wear clothing that was considered seductive.
However, after this period, the number of marriages in England and Wales then went into decline. Most recently, marriages reached an all-time low in 2005 when only 244,710 couples got married. Some people would say that it reached so low because people are rejecting marriage and are no longer bothered about it. But in fact, statistics reveal that many people are actually delaying marriage. It is said that most people will marry at some point in their lives, but people are deciding to marry later in life, most likely after a period of cohabitation.
Raising a child alone isn't as taboo as it was back then. But, she could choose for herself whether she wanted to have an abortion, or if she decided to keep the baby she would have many resources available to her. But this isn’t the case in this story. The American's shows a lack of concern for what she wants. I also get the impression that Jig is insecure about her relationship because she asks, “And if I do it you’ll be happy and
Single mothers are more likely to smoke and less likely to seek proper prenatal care. Single mothers are less likely to breastfeed. Children without a father present have more developmental delays. They are more likely to be academic underachievers, to be truant and to abuse drugs and alcohol. They are more apt to be antisocial and will have greater
The main and most important reason for the decrease in marriages and increase in divorces was the fact that changing attitudes towards them. People now believe that is alright to get divorce is they are not happy in their marriage and with that the stigma towards divorces (Goody)had decreased as now divorces are day to day basis like the way we see in magazines articles about celebrities getting divorce and no one is against it anymore, when as before older members of the family would make the young couple stay together doesn’t matter what as that’s how they have been told. That the same for marriage as more and more people wants to cohabitate with their partner rather than get married as women now have more opportunities to work and set own rules about their life’s that before wasn’t possible. This leads to second important reason for the changes is which is the changes in laws. since women are earning money now they can afford to make divorce petition and the divorces had become cheaper.
