165 Studying Early Childhood Early Years Pioneers: Their Impact Today For this assignment I am going to research into how early years pioneers have impacted on children’s education through childhood. I will provide brief descriptions about pioneers, the definition of childhood and how it affects the care of our children and working as a professional practioner. Pioneers are recognised professionals who have had masses of influence on children and education today dating back to the seventeenth century. Pioneers provide educational theory to support and encourage a child’s development. From my findings it is evident that many Ideologies and strategies which we use in our settings today originate back to the many theories.
This document aims to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the many recent changes to UK legal and policy, the organisational frameworks and recent service provisions for children and family. This piece of work will also analyse the roles, responsibilities and dilemmas of professional agencies who are working with children and their families. Lastly it will demonstrate the theoretical understanding of some of the main issues which are related to childhood and parenting. In response to Lord Laming’s Inquiry into the death of Victoria Climbié, policy and legislative changes were introduced which have shaped the immediate future of children’s services. The Every Child Matters (ECM) agenda is, as argued by Walker (2008), the most radical programme of change yet seen, aimed at improving the outcomes for all children and families.
In an attempt to portray the complexities of merging old traditions with modern lifestyles, Amy Tan and Chinua Achebe formed novels that depict how parent-child relationships are influenced by different cultures. Though they are presented under different circumstances, The Joy Luck Club and Things Fall Apart portray parent child relationships, the effect of outside influences, cultural differences, and generational gaps. Naturally parents strive to provide what is best for their children which includes, watching over them, giving them proper guidance, and going great lengths to ensure that their future will be better than their own. This motive is shown in The Joy Luck Club in the opening parable, “Feathers from a Thousand Li Away.” A woman who is emigrating to America from Shanghai, dreams that she will raise a daughter who will not only “exceed all hopes,” but unlike her mother she will be “judged according to her own worth not by that of a husband” (TAN) It is also shown in Things Fall Apart when Okonkwo is speaking to his son Nwoye, warning him that, “No matter how prosperous a man was, if he was unable to rule his women and his children (and especially his women) he was not really a man” (ACHEBE, 45) Okonkwo was referring to his father who he resents for not being the man that he desperately needed as a child. As a result of being raised by that type of parenting, Okonkwo’s “whole life was dominated by fear, the fear of failure and weakness.” He is now doing everything in his power to make sure that his son, Nwoye, will not follow after his grandfather’s habits hoping that his son will learn good work ethic and respect for his culture.

My favorite discussion was Week 2 Discussion 1. In this discussion we explained the specific impacts of parenting styles related to child development. This discussion opened up numerous issues concerning parenting styles and the outcomes into adulthood. This discussion helped me see more clearer that sometimes it is not the parenting styles that make a big difference in a child. Sometimes a child can have the best up-bringing and still be influenced by bad peers.

Case workers, child welfare services, and the psychological community alike have taken an interest as to the impact sibling separation has on an individual child. Sibling relationships are the most enduring of interpersonal ties and serve as important contexts for individual development (East & Khoo, 2005). The researchers wanted only to observe the effect that sibling relationships have on adjustment during tenure in foster care and other factors. A broad sample pool was used and factors such as age spacing, initial placement, duration of maltreatment, kinship vs. certified foster home, caregiver language, and disability were used as elimination (control) factors. This particular study used 78 sibling pairs (after elimination).
CHILD BIRTH, A SIGNIFICANT MOMENT In my lifetime that I’ve lived so far, I have experienced several meaningful moments. Child birth can be a very significant moment for both a mother and a father. Some people may experience it young, while others may experience child birth at an older age. For me I experienced child birth at the age of 18, and from that moment on my life has changed. Having my baby girl Jy’aira has taught me to be more responsible, to be a better role model, and the true definition of a mother.
