Travis Dray Comm 431 SWOT Analysis Facebook SWOT Analysis Facebook could arguably be the most popular website in the entire world. In fact, according to the Huffington Post, in 2011 Facebook was the most visited website. But maybe not everything that comes along with this much publicity is good. Below I will look at the strengths of Facebook, but also some weaknesses, opportunities for Facebook, and also some of their threats. Some of the obvious strengths of Facebook are that it is the most popular social networking site, the most visited website, and is global (except for China). Being the most popular social networking site, and the most users, means that Facebook is nearly impossible to compete with. Add to this that Facebook is everywhere in the world except for China (which they are still working on), and they will just keep their numbers growing. Some not so obvious strength to Facebook is the want for ads on the site, the fact that it is a free communication site, and the use of video chat recently added. Facebook is going to continue to make money because it will stay as the most popular site and this will be where everyone wants to advertise. As long as these ads continue to sell the website should stay free to use. With accounts being free, people will not hesitate to sign up and try out the website. With the addition of Facebook Chat (partnered with Skype) people can accomplish more on the one site than have to go to three or four. Facebook also has its weaknesses. A big complaint is the lack of user input. Everyone wants Facebook to ad a “dislike” button, or to make the change in page layout optional, or to be able to customize his or her own background. Some of these wants seem easily solvable but Facebook also does not have service reps available. Almost all of your problems have to be self-solved using the Frequently Asked Questions
