Facebook's website, known as (www.facebook.com) is the most popular social networking site in the world. This website is where individuals and companies can interact and share information. Facebook users enjoy keeping up with friends, uploading a vast array of photographic memories that capture special events in their lives that can be easily shared with other users. They can also post links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet. (Facebook Company Overview). Due to the popularity of Facebook Social Media, emails are on the decline and will eventually be considered an “old school” messaging media much like letter writing declined with the arrival of email messaging. Facebook states it has over 700 million users worldwide and is a media for social interaction that uses highly visible and measureable publishing techniques. Facebook Social Media is alleged to be valued at $50 Billion dollars! So, how did this company, founded in 2004 by five Harvard University students named Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, and Chris Hughes become such a profitable and established media power? Simply stated…it uses web-based technologies to turn everyday communication of its members into interactive dialogue. Social media is like a wide-ranging conversation that can be held across the globe, or on a personal level between two people, or both. Social media provides an ideal medium for finding communities of people who are like minded or share opposing opinions as well as individuals who are interested in particular topics.
