Facebook in Vietnam- Why or Why not? Currently, social networking websites such as Facebook, Zing Me, YuMe and Twitter are immensely popular among all internet users in Vietnam. One of them, Facebook, with its outstanding features has risen to the top of the most visited sites. There are now 3.607.220 Facebook users in Vietnam, which makes it the fortieth country in the ranking of Facebook Statistics in the world (Vietnam Facebook Statistics). However, ignoring all the advantages of Facebook, many Vietnamese Internet service providers have recently blocked the site. Undoubtedly, this behavior has come as a bitter disappointment to all Facebookers and millions of Internet users across the country. Surely enough, we have reasons to believe that this social networking website should not be blocked in Vietnam. Obviously, Facebook will bring people around the world together. It is truly an amazing place for people to express themselves, to share their feelings as well as to sooth their trouble minds. First and foremost, this social networking site enables everyone to have a space of their own where they can write about themselves, post their pictures or comments and even search for partners, etc. “Unlike most other social networks, Facebook has sophisticated privacy settings. You have a lot of control over who can see what information about you. So you can enable members of your school or work group to learn about you, but prevent anyone in a high school group from seeing anything, if you choose. You can also determine how information about you shows up in searches other members conduct on the site” (Kirkpatrick). Also, its tools allow people to freely share their point of views their feeling and as well as to openly discuss these views with others.
