Facebook Statistics say that one out of every twelve people on the earth has a Facebook (L., 2010) Facebook is a social networking site that began in February of 2004. Even though it serves many purposes to the user’s, the main purpose of Facebook, according to Sheldon, is to “make new friendships or to maintain those that already existed” (Sheldon, 2008). What first started out in a small college dorm room soon began to take the college societies in the United States by storm. Mark Zuckerberg was only a sophomore in college when he created this social phenomenon. Facebook is a global phenomenon that has helped family and friends connect to each other. Mark Zuckerberg’s biography and education led to the birth of Facebook and contributed to its popularity over the past few years. BIOGRAPHY Mark Zuckerburg is an American software developer and internet businessman. He is known best for creating and co-founding the social website Facebook.com in 2004, of which he is now the CEO and president of the company. While this may seem like an extraordinary man, his life began like any other person’s did. Mark Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York, on May 14, 1984. His mother, Karen, was a psychiatrist, and his father, Edward, held a profession as a dentist. He and his three sisters, Randi, Donna, and Arielle, were raised in Dobb’s Fairy, New York (Vargas, 2010). Zuckerberg was raised in a Jewish home, including having a bar mitzvah when he turned thirteen. Since then, he described himself as being an atheist (Boggan, 2010). Mark Zuckerberg began to use computer and writing software as a child in middle school. His father taught him Atari BASIC Programming and then later hired software developer David Newman to tutor him privately.
