The Internet has millions of websites. Many people who are at different ages, nationalities, cultures can find a website that addresses them in some way. Nowadays the most popular website called Facebook is connecting a very large amount of people and, in every passingy day, the number of its users is increasing. In my opinion, Facebook is not advertised as an online directory that connects people through social networks.
First of all, every time you go online, time is taken away from extracurricular activities and other social gatherings. In other words, people spend too much time in front of the computer. When they start to search on Facebook, they are not aware of how much they are wasting. Therefore, they delay homework, chores, time needed to study for an exam etc. Facebook supplies a lot of activities such as meeting people, creating groups and finding friends who people have not met for a long time. These opportunities seem more attractive than doing other things such as homework. Sometime later, they become somewhat addicted to Facebook. On the other hand, they create a virtual life on it and isolate themselves from real life.
Secondly, although Facebook is a good way to connect people to each other, it has some drawbacks such as spending too much time and using stereotypes to characterize yourself and others. And of course with that comes certain negativity living in a world with different cultures and views all on one social network is going to cause some kind of chaos.
In conclusion, Facebook is a socially acceptable networking site for college students and others to connect, share experiences, and meet old friends. It does say some disturbing things about how our society views privacy, personal information, and how our society is adjusting to the age of technology, and it brings into question what a generation of Facebookers will deal with the...
