English 100 02 November 2011 A Little Something Extra We are all tired of the same routine every day. Waking up in the morning to do the same things over and over again is completely a waste of time, and makes our lives not interesting at all. Some people try to change their routine by changing the order of their daily tasks, but others decide to go to the other extreme by changing their whole life style. Working in an office every day seems boring and this is one of the reasons some people decide to try new things like extreme sports. Extreme sports, also called action sports or adventure sports, are named this way because of their high level of danger and risks. This type of sports usually involves high speeds, height and a lot of physical and mental activity. Some people target these activities as dangerous not only for the person that is practicing the sport but also for third parties. According to William Dowell in “Life on the Edge” people like to practice dangerous activities but tend to step away of the action because they are afraid of the consequences. However, participating in extreme sports is positive in our life because is a way to try new things and to overcome our instincts. It also gives us that little something extra that we all need in our life to make it more interesting. There are different types of extreme sports, three of the most famous and exiting are: BASE jumping which is jumping from the top of a mountain or any high surface with a special suit fitted with wings that allows the jumper to control their speed and movements in the air. They are also equipped with a parachute which they use at the end of their “flight”. BASE jumping has become the number one on fatality rate among other extreme sports; this is why it is not one of the most popular extreme sports (DOWELL). Paragliding or parachuting jumping is another extreme sport
