Chapter I INTRODUCTION “The hair is the richest ornament of a person” –Martin Luther. Our hair describes our personality, identity and character. From the way we comb and carry our hair or even style our hair. This is the reason why we should take good care of our hair in order to maintain it healthy and shiny throughout. Our scalp and hair needs very special attention and extra care. Some undergo treatments and programs to regain the destroy of the hair. Some use organic, natural and chemical based treatments. Most people use hair oil to maintain the healthy hair that they have. This study is discussing about the possibility of oil extracted from calamansi peeling as preservative for hair oil. This product is used by those people who suffer from hair breakage mostly girls. Hair oil helps soften and moisturize the scalp and treat the hair strands. Oil is applied to the hair to give lustrous look, to prevent tangles and roughness and to stabilize the hair to promote growth. Coconut oil has been the hair product of choice from centuries, with no chemicals and additives. It softens the hair and conditions the scalp. Coconut oil, a natural ingredient in the highest sense of the word, has always been recognized for its quality of strengthening the structure of damaged, devitalized hair. Coconut oil lubricates and softens the hair shaft through the action of minerals such as magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron. The calamansi is not seasonal in our country. Thus, it’s very practical, convenient and safe to use. We can find this fruit in the groceries, wet market and even in sari-sari stores. Calamansi contains a certain preservative called Pectin that is also used in preserving foods, jellies and jams. A Calamansi peeling produces a very fresh and citrus smell. Thus it’s more natural to use than produced chemical scents. The
