This means taking action to keep my skills and knowledge up to date and seeking to improve my capabilities across the range of tasks I carry out daily. Upon qualification, all nurses are accountable to the NMC whom set out bench marks and standards that nurses must adhere to in order to continue to practice. These standards are seen as the minimum that a nurse must undertake in order to remain up to date with current practices. However, the bench marks that either our employers or in fact ourselves may have can be much higher. The more challenging and proactive our continuing professional development is the more empowering it can be for ourselves and our colleagues.
