Discuss how Steinbeck presents George and lennie’s relationship in sections 1 and 2 Steinbeck portrays the relationship between George and Lennie as very complex. Both offer different tributes towards the balance of their relationship and both receive benefits from being close travelling partners. He presents different aspects of their relationship in sections one and two. George and Lennie are an unusual pair within the novella, from the beginning Steinbeck sets the two men apart, telling us how “they walked in single file” and “even in the open, one stayed behind the other” these are the first signs that one man is more dominant than the other in the relationship, though Steinbeck then adds a twist by describing the first character to be “small and quick” whereas “behind him walked his opposite, a huge man” this is unusual because we would have imagined that the bigger man would have been in front as the leader to protect his companion. Steinbeck uses their appearances to show how completely different these two men are.
Both honest mistakes that he didn’t even know he made. The ignorance shown towards Lennie in the novel was due to the time period and the people’s lack of knowledge. People in the story like “The boss” just thought that Lennie wasn’t smart because he just didn’t talk much unless it was to his best friend George. There was ignorance in Raymond because his brother thought that he could remove Ray from his schedules at his home and take him with him. The Ignorance was that Ray needed those schedules or he will have a fit.
During the course of the novel of ‘Deadly Unna?’ the readers are exposed to the negativity between the father and his son. This affects Blacky in way that his self-esteem is almost non-existent, and the negativity is prominent throughout the novel. Examples of the neglect shown by his father are that of the time when Bob refers to Blacky as a ‘gutless wonder’, and the journey we take through the story of Blacky’s deteriorating respect for him. The ‘gutless wonder’ incident was a influential part of the novel, as Blacky realises that his Dad isn’t one to take advice of someone he feels is inferior than him, thus saying, ‘My own son, a gutless wonder. A gutless fucking wonder!’ When Blacky explains to his father about the storm, Bob insults him rather than swallow his pride and takes his son’s advice on board.
On one side Holden’s interest in human interactions drive him to find and build relationships of his own, but on the other hand he uses his alienation as a wall of protection from outside forces. An instance of this is when he goes on a date with Sally Hayes; his solitude forces him to crave love and affection from another human being but his isolation and fear of being hurt from another person cause him to drive off people easily. In conclusion we learn that Holden feels isolated from everyone and everything. In spite of living a seemingly happy life and going to one of the best schools in the country, Holden hates everything and everyone and believes everyone is fake. Holden’s sense of superiority is just a veil to cover his insecurities and his social criticism of everyone are just ways to project his negative qualities onto another person to make himself feel
Lazarillo soon learns to be tricky and sneaky in order to survive and get food since his masters would not feed him well. By the end of the novel, although his hard-gained survival and finally reaching the social level he always hoped to attain in his life, Lazaro, does not seem to be a man of honor; which is one of the most important values a person had to have to be socially accepted. After all the years of observing his masters’ hypocrisy, materialism and greed, he marries the archpriest’s mistress for what he can gain. He did not want anyone’s interference or opinion in his decision and just wanted to be happy and know he did the right things after all the hardship he went through in life. His desire for survival and fulfilling the socially acceptable roles of a man has made him an antihero as well as the hero of this novel.
Lennie is he’s responsibility. And since Lennie is he’s responsibility, it’s been getting him in trouble. Like running away from town and getting in to trouble in the ranch. Life is rough with Lennie. He always says how it’d be so much easier without Lennie in his life but he obviously knows he would do anything to protect him.
The expectations set by each other of their father son relationship make it so that it is unobtainable to have the relationship each other want. Amir wants Baba all to himself in the novel and has trouble ac accepting the fact that’s now how it’s going to be. Baba does not value Amir because he is weak in his eyes. This relationship is dynamic in that it changes in the novel because they finally realize they only have each other after enduring tough tests along the way. Naguib the young boy in Half a Day has a different relationship with his dad than Amir to Baba.

Phil was asked nicely to find another hotel because the hotel is full and there is no space available for him. The hotel staff could not say that the hotel is off-limit because it would be too obvious. Even though it is not said out loud, this is clearly a form of discrimination because was a treated differently due to his origins. Discrimination can take different shapes and styles, but it is still ugly and should be stopped. I believe that discrimination by gentlemen agreement still occurs in today’s society.
Hally has a very specific character and a very important function to the play. Hally is so important that it is even important to Fugard, and it helps him destroy his barrier. Due to his lack of friends he tries to create a bond with Sam and it makes it even more valuable due to Hally’s loneliness.
