This protection applies to any persons using the premises such as, students, parents, visitors and workmen. Employers must have a written health and safety policy, which must be brought to the notice of all employees. Employees, volunteers and service users also have responsibilities within the act, they have a common law duty of care. The act requires them to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and other people at work. They must not interfere with or obstruct anything provided in the interests of health and safety at work. It is their duty to familiarise themselves with the policy statement and general health and safety procedures and ensure they keep themselves and others around them safe. My role is Manager for a Day Service for people with a learning disability. All staff and volunteers are required to have up-to-date DBS checks, the dates are monitored timely and people are reminded and assisted to update their DBS checks. Safeguarding training is also mandatory. Dependent upon role, staff are required to attend additional training such as first aid, food hygiene and personal
