On the whole, climate change has very negative consequences on people and the environment in the long term, and if nothing is done to prevent the ongoing increase in temperature, then plant and animal species globally will be faced with extinction. The only positive impact being that as the temperature rises by three degrees centigrade, crop yield in western Europe will increase, which will give the UK an economic boost for trade, since more variety of food can be grown. With the increase of temperature and the retreating of glaciers, the sea levels have been rising at about 3.3mm every year, which doesn’t seem like a lot however this is enough of an increase for the Tuvalu islands, in the Pacific Oceans, to start being submerged by water. The population of some of the 9 islands has started to be evacuated to New Zealand with on average 75 people moving every year. Astonishingly, it is predicted that due to the change in temperature to the oceans, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is predicted to be dead within 30 years. This is a prime example of how climate change can ruin wildlife and plants. If the Great Barrier Reef is destroyed then Australia’s economy will be severely impacted as it generates $6 billion in revenue for Australia annually and provides employment to more than 50,000 people.
