Many Jewish families felt hatred and resentment towards Hitler. It was hard but Jewish people found new cultures and lifestyles that were comfortable to them. Many of his helpers were found in hiding and killed on the spot. Survivors with kids were told to never speak of the event
Although terrorism in Palestine was an important factor, saying it was 'the most important' factor is debatable. Zionist terrorist groups intent on the creation of a Jewish homeland such as Irgun and the stern gang played an important role in the creation of an independent state of Israel it was not the most important. Two of the most notable terrorist attacks were the bombing of the king David hotel in 1946 and the hanging of the two British soldiers. In July 1946 the Irgun bombed the king David hotel, killing 91 people including 15 Jews, this attack weakened the morale of the British in Palestine and in Britain, this meant that the public wanted the soldiers to come home and this put pressure on the government to withdraw and led to them handing Palestine over to the UN in 1948. Arguably the role of the UN was the most important factor in the creation of Israel.
Gypsies in Poland were the first to suffer. Soon the annihilation spread. The Gestapo haunted them down like animals, they wanted to eliminate the Gypsies. Most of the captives were taken to Auschwitz, Birkenau to be more precise. Many Roma didn’t even made it to the camps.
• When Hassidic survivors arrived in this country after World War II, America opened its doors to them. Like other emigrants before them it was taken for granted that they would soon loose their eastern European ways. • Hassidim refused to follow this script. Hassidim are a minority in a minority. They arose controversy amongst other Jews, no less than among gentiles.
Specifically, the Romans began to take the Jews rights to practice their religion. For example, the Romans prohibited the Jews from circumcising babies and reading Torah. As a result of these restrictions the Jews revolted against the Romans in the Great Jewish Revolt. The war lasted from 66-73 CE when the Romans defeated the remaining Jewish fighters. During this war the Jewish Temple was destroyed which created spiritual havoc throughout the Jewish world.
These Christians thought that they had to do everything in their power to lessen the anger of God and appease Him. These bands of people, known as flagellants, wandered through towns and countryside doing penance (a punishment undergone in token of penitence of sin) in public. They inflicted various kinds of punishments on themselves, sacrificing themselves for others’ sins in imitation of Jesus Christ. Most of society did not approve of them. “The flagellants showed a tendency to kill Jews they encountered, and even killed clergymen who spoke against them.”
In the same way of the persecutors of the Holocaust and Armenian genocide were they were being oppressed to religious people and different races of people. They were focused to get rid of the generation for not obeying the government. They believed that everything that the government said it should be obeyed or else they will have to take the consequences. In contrast, in the Holocaust the Nazis were persecuting the Jewish people and other races in Germany. Hitler believed that the Jews had the fault for losing World War 1 and the depression of Germany (“Altman 15”).
I hate to say this, but a couple of my mom’s brothers and sisters are racists. After September 11, my family became extremely racists and it was to the point that they could not stand to look at anyone who came from the Middle East. I think that was wrong of them because half of those who came to America from the Middle East came here to get away from all of the violence there. They should be able to come here with open arms knowing it is safe. Yes September 11 was a sad day for us all and I think that is when the racist profiling began to start up again.
The Myths of anti-Semitism: Were it all began The Jewish people have been persecuted throughout history. Hated and despised for no logical reason. I wondered where all of this hatred originated from. I did some research and it dates all the way back to roman time when Jesus Christ was crucified. And people being as they are, had to find someone to blame, So they chose the Jewish because they already didn't approve of their beliefs.
This is reflected in Portia’s understanding of mercy as she says: “should we see salvation: we do pray for mercy”. Personal Response. Amongst the several themes explored in “The Merchant of Venice”, the conflict between Jews and Christians is one of them. Throughout history there has been a unanimous hatred for the Jews by many nations, the most recent major outbreaks of such hatred being the Holocaust during WWII. In regards to the hatred between Jews and Christians, it seems that even till this day many supposed Christians hate the Jews for killing the Messiah.
