1.1 There are 14 nutritional requirements to make up a healthy diet: 1. Energy- this is enables children and young people to concentrate on learning and play. 2. Carbohydrate- Starchy carbs should provide the main source of energy in a diet. 3. Non-Milk extrinsic sugars- a diet low in NME sugars will help to prevent tooth decay. 4. Fat- lower fat intake can prevent weight gain. 5. Saturated fat- a diet low in saturated fat can prevent high cholesterol and decrease the risk of heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. 6. Protein- Protein is important for the growth and repair of body tissues like muscles. Children grow fast so protein is particularly important. 7.
