2005 Question 2 With the power to tax and spend, the federal power has increased. It has allowed government to add more tax than the original constitution intended to allow, therefore collecting more money, and give them more power. The commerce clause has increased the federal power of the Congress. The Congress has created many new federal regulations such as the Interstate Commerce Act in 1887 and the Sherman Antitrust Act in 1890 because of the quickening of the industrial revolution. Acts such as the Clean Air Act allows more power to the federal government relative to the states because it gives the government more power to control areas where they were not intended to supervise.
