Experience Report #1 The place that I chose to attend that I would gain a little more experience with American Sign Language is Germantown Christian Academy. Some people decide to go to special events where you are surrounded by deaf people. I chose to attend a church function because I am able to see how they connect with God, and how they are able to receive the message that is being delivered for the day by the minister. Another reason that I chose to attend a church function is because it was also giving me and my little the one the opportunity to attend church and receive the message ourselves. I attended the Germantown Christian Academy on February 12, 2012 at 9:15 am- 12:15 pm. The address for the church is 610 E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Philadelphia Pa. At the church the deaf people are seated up front of the church and are able to see Brenda Wilford, who is the interrupter on the first and third Sunday of the month. Brenda has been with the church for I think about five years. While I was sitting in the first row in the church I realized that there was a woman about my age who was deaf. I was able to watch her and Brenda talks back in forth. Watching Brenda interrupt what the pastor was preaching and along with the church choir sing was an amazing experience. I was also able to pick up on some more signs that were used during the service. I never realized how fast one person has to be when they are interrupting for a church or for any event in this case. It has made me realize that if I want to further this in my degree I need to practice a lot more that what I am currently doing. The woman that was about my age was named Jessica, Jessie for short. When I first introduced myself I was a little nervous because it was my first time communicating with someone outside of the classroom that is really deaf.
